Software Upgrade
You can upgrade the switch software to update the switch with the latest software fixes and features. You must have access to the Internet to download switch software from Cisco.com to your PC or network drive.

Note: Wait for the upgrade process to complete. Do not use or close this browser session, and do not access the device manager from another browser session.

Upgrade the Switch Software

  1. Click the http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/ link from the Upgrade Software window. Note that a Cisco.com account is required to access the software images from the website.

  2. Find the latest software image for the switch.

    Note: You must download and use the software image in tar file format (not bin file format) to upgrade the switch through the device manager.

  3. Download the tar file to your PC or to a network drive.

    Note: Upgrading the switch with the tar file on your PC is faster than if the tar file is on a network drive.

  4. Click Browse from the Software Upgrade window, and then navigate to and select the tar file on your PC or network drive.

  5. Click Upgrade.

    Note: During the upgrade process, do not use or close this browser session, and do not access the device manager from another browser session.

    When the upgrade process completes, a success message appears, and the switch automatically restarts. It might take a few minutes for the switch to restart with the new software.

  6. Close this browser session, and display the device manager.

  7. Make sure that the latest software version on the switch appears in the Software field in the Switch Information area of the Dashboard.

If the upgrade process does not complete, an error message appears. If the upgrade process fails or does not complete, try to upgrade the switch again by following the procedures above. However, first:

  • Make sure that you downloaded the correct tar file from Cisco.com.
  • If you downloaded the correct tar file, refresh your device manager browser session to make sure that there is connectivity between the switch and your PC or network drive.
