Tandem Vocoding

A situation in which an audio stream is vocoded using vocoder A, de-vocoded, re-vocoded using vocoder B, and de-vocoded again. Although it usually results in the degradation of the audio signal when lossy-compression vocoders are used, it may be unavoidable when communications span differing system types.
