Management of Backup and Restore for Channel Clusters and MLC 8000 Devices

This section contains procedures for backing up and restoring configuration data for an entire channel cluster, including MLC 8000 devices, as well as procedures for backing up and restoring a particular MLC 8000 device.

The MLC 8000 Configuration Tool saves the configuration file of a device in three circumstances.

  1. Whenever you perform Write to Device and the configuration is downloaded to the device
  2. Whenever you back up the system
  3. Whenever you perform Save to File, saving the configuration of the device

In each of the events listed, the backup file is saved in a separate location.

  1. In the first circumstance, the Configuration Tool validates the configuration and saves it under the channel cluster folder name: C:\ProgramData\Motorola\MLC8000 CT\Data\System\channel cluster name\SuccessfulConfigurations .

  2. In the second circumstance, the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool generates a new folder for the backup. The folder name contains the date and time of its generation. The folder is located in C:\ProgramData\Motorola\MLC8000 CT\Data\Backup.

  3. In the third case, select the filename and the folder where the file should be saved.

In the first circumstance, the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool generates the filename of the configuration file. It concatenates the device ID and IP address of the device and the extension is “.cfg”, for example, 10-10.98.66.111.cfg is the name of the configuration file of a device whose device ID is 10 and IP address is 10.98.66.111.
