Assigning the Reset Password Key

Prerequisites:

When and where to use:

Use this procedure to create or change the reset password key on the MLC 8000 device, which is needed for resetting the password when the current password is not known.

Procedure:

  1. Establish communication with the MLC 8000.
    If… Then…
    If the PC is connected to the MLC 8000 O&M port, perform the following actions:
    1. Use a terminal emulation program such as ProComm+, Hyperterminal, or the Serial connection option in PuTTY.

    2. Enter 2

      to continue in response to the prompt displayed.
    If the PC is connected to the External LAN, use the SSH option in PuTTY.
    The MMI window is opened.
  2. Enter the User Name and current Password for this MLC 8000 device.
  3. Enter 1 for the option for Password and Keys menu.
    The MMI password and keys menu is shown.
  4. Enter 1 for option Create or Change Reset Password Key.
    MMI prompts for the reset password key.
  5. Enter the reset password key which must be 4 to 15 characters in length and which must contain at least one of each of the following character types: lowercase, uppercase, digit, and symbol character. Press Enter.
    MMI prompts you to reenter the reset password key.
  6. Enter the same reset password key that was entered in step 6. Press Enter.
    The reset password key is stored in FLASH and is ready to be used.
  7. Exit the MMI window.
    NoteOnce the reset password key is assigned to the MLC 8000, the system administrator and Motorola Support Center must keep it for future use on this device.
