Changing the MLC 8000 Password

Prerequisites:

• The PC used to create or change the MLC 8000 password is connected to the MLC 8000 Analog Comparator or the MLC 8000 Subsite Link Converter either through the local O&M connection or remotely through SSH communication.
• The PC used to create or change the MLC 8000 password has a terminal emulator or PuTTY installed on it.
  NoteA version of PuTTY is provided on the ASTRO ^® 25 system Windows Supplemental media.

When and where to use:

Procedure:

1. Establish communication with the MLC 8000:

   If…	Then…
   If the PC is connected to the MLC 8000 O&M port,	perform the following actions: Use a terminal emulation program, such as ProComm+ or HyperTerminal, or the Serial connection option in PuTTY. Enter 2 to continue in response to the prompt displayed. .
   If the PC is connected to the External LAN,	use the SSH option in PuTTY.

2. Enter User Name and current Password for this MLC 8000 device.
3. Enter 1 for the option Password and Keys menu.
4. Enter 0 for Change Password.
5. Enter the old password and press Enter.
6. Enter the new password and press Enter.
   ImportantThe password provided must be 4 to 15 characters length and must include at least one of each of the following character types: lowercase, uppercase, digit, and symbol.
   MMI prompts you to reenter the new password.
7. Reenter the new password and press Enter.
   The password is changed. The MLC 8000 reboots automatically. The power LED changes to red. Wait until the Power LED changes to green before disconnecting or connecting MLC 8000 cables.
8. Exit the MMI window.
   ImportantKeep the current password in a safe location for later retrieval.
