From: Radio Product Division Plantation Florida
Subject:
HT750, HT1250, CT250, CT450 / UHF Range 1 Radios, Low or No Transmit
Power Out
Symptoms:
Motorola has discovered a slightly higher than normal failure rate on
UHF Range One (403-470 mhz) Professional and CTR Series Radios. The Radios
may exhibit "Low Transmit Power Out" or "No Transmit Power
Out."
Potential
Problem Radios:
Model Numbers: AAH25Rxxxxxx and AAH34Rxxxxxx marked with a (#) sign prefix
on the date code label ex: #0383
Serial
Numbers: xxxTASxxxx through xxxTBCxxxx.
Cause:
An antenna mismatch condition can cause high current to be drawn by the
driver.
Corrective Action:
A " patch" application program is used to adjust the V-Limit
code plug lowering the transmitter driver current. This corrective action
is only applicable to those UHF range 1 radios with a "#" prefix
next to the date code.
The Code
Plug Patch can be downloaded from the Dealer Secure Access Motorola Online
Web Site. Follow the Code Plug Patch Procedure below.
This only applies to serial numbered radios listed above marked with a
(#) prefix on the Date Code. Contact your local Motorola Authorized Service
Representative to arrange for this modification.

labor is authorized by warranty. Contact your local Motorola Authorized

Procedure:
- Prepare the set
up shown below:

- Connect the appropriate
programming cable to the side connector of the radio.
- To extract the
patch tools, unzip the correct zip file per the chart below.
(Note: if your
computer does not recognize files of type .zip, please go to the WinZip
homepage to obtain a copy of the necessary software. Click here for
additional instructions for opening a .ZIP
file)
- To run the program
click on the executable file.
- Click icon on
the pop up menu to verify the version of the patch program. See table
above for the version reference.
- Go to "Config"
menu and select the "comm port setting to be used ".
- Power up the radio,
then program the radio by:
a) Clicking on the correct Radio model - HT750/HT1250 or CT250/CT450
(See chart above)
- There will be
a message bar indicating the progress. Don't unplug the side connector
or switch off the radio before the indicator disappears. Interruption
during the programming process can cause the code plug to be corrupted.
Note: After
update the radio will emit a continuous tone until the radio is powered
down and the battery is removed.
- Once you have downloaded the code plug
patcher.doc file to your desktop.
- Create 2 NEW folders on your desktop.
- 1 called Professional.
- 1 called CT.

- In it ycode_plug_patcher_Instructions.docou will find the 2 compressed
files you need.
- Double click on the file called Professional.zip.
- Click yes to allow the OLE exception to be performed.
- WinZip will open and display the files that are contained within
the compressed folder.
- Highlight all of the files in the WinZip window.
- Then click and drag them to the Professional folder you created on
your desktop. This will extract the files directly to that folder.
- Double click on the file called CT.zip.
- Click yes to allow the OLE exception to be performed.
- WinZip will open and display the files that are contained within
the compressed folder.
- Highlight all of the files in the WinZip window.
- Then click and drag them to the CT folder you created on your desktop.
This will extract the files directly to that folder.
- Once all of the files have been extracted into the appropriate folders
you run the UpgradeKit.exe file.
- Run it from the CT folder to upgrade the CT software.
- Run it from the Professional folder to upgrade the CT software.

Code Plug Patch Update 3/15/01
It has been reported that due to variations between LDMOS devices, some
radios may not meet the published specification of 4 watts after using the
Code Plug Patch tool. In most cases, this will not be noticed by the user
because the loss of power is minimal. A new Code Plug patch tool is under
development to address this issue and will be posted on the Dealer Web Site
during the week of 3/26/01. This tool will allow you to readjust the output
power if necessary. You may continue using the existing tool until that
time, but you should test the RF power to insure that the radio meets the
rated specification of 4 watts. |
