Connecting to a New MLC 8000 Device External LAN

Prerequisites:

When and where to use:

Use this procedure to assign an IP address from the customer IP Plan to a newly manufactured MLC 8000 device using the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool. The newly manufactured MLC 8000 device comes with a default IP address that is used to connect the service computer/laptop directly to the device and configure the desired IP address. After the device is configured with the desired IP address, it can be connected to the IP network and is accessible by the service computer/laptop remotely.

Procedure:

  1. Place the MLC 8000 on a horizontal surface.
  2. Place the power supply near the MLC 8000 on a safe horizontal surface.
  3. Connect the MLC 8000 to the site ground:
    1. Connect one end of the grounding wire to one of the grounding screws at the back panel of the MLC 8000.
    2. Secure the spring washer and the nut; tighten the nut.
    3. Connect the other end of the grounding wire to the site grounding port.
  4. Connect the DC cable of the power supply unit to the DC inlet of the MLC 8000 unit.
ImportantEnsure that the cable is not routed with tension.
  5. Connect a LAN cable from the technician laptop to the EXTERNAL LAN – PoE port on the rear of the MLC 8000.
ImportantThe connection must be a direct connection.
  6. Turn on power to the MLC 8000 by connecting the AC cord of the power supply unit to an AC power outlet (110-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz).
ImportantThe AC power outlet should be as near as possible to the equipment and should be accessible. Ensure that the cable is not routed with tension.
  7. Verify that the MLC 8000 power LED turns RED (which indicates the MLC 8000 is in booting state) and after approximately 90 seconds, it turns GREEN.
ImportantIf the MLC 8000 power LED remains RED, see the MLC 8000 Comparator Feature Guide, “MLC 8000 LED Indications and Recommended Actions” section.
