Connecting Physical System Components

This section is a copy of the printed document provided with your WAVE 3000 Server. This copy is provided in the event you must physically move your WAVE 3000 Server but have lost the original printed instructions. If you have already completed initial connection with the WAVE 3000 Server, then proceed to Accessing the WAVE 3000 Server

This guide provides instructions for connecting the physical hardware components of a WAVE 3000 Server 1.2 and configuring IP addresses for initial connection to a Motorola Connect Plus, Capacity Plus, or Linked Capacity Plus radio system. Upon completion, you will connect with the WAVE 3000 Server over your network using a browser and proceed with the configuration steps in the online help system.

Note:

The procedures in this section were written for Windows 7. If you are using a PC running Windows 8, then refer to your Windows 8 documentation for instructions on accessing the Control Panel and changing network settings.

Requirements (Not Supplied)

One Windows 7 or 8 PC.

Two CAT 5 Ethernet cables.

Configuring the WAVE 3000 Server

To configure the WAVE 3000 Server system for first use, you must access the WAVE 3000 Server through the Radio System adapter using a Windows 7 or 8 PC and an Ethernet cable. This procedure only needs to be done once. After this, you will be able to access the WAVE 3000 Server through the Broadband Adapter over any supported browser on the same network as the WAVE 3000 Server.

To configure the WAVE 3000 Server

1.	Connect the power jack to the rear power port and plug-in the WAVE 3000 Server (6 or 5).

2.	Press the power button to start the unit. Wait at least two minutes to ensure the machine has completed booting.

3.	Connect a single CAT 5 Ethernet cable to a Radio System Adapter port. Use either of the two right Ethernet ports. Connect the other end of the CAT 5 Ethernet cable to a Windows 7 or 8 PC.

4.	On the PC connected to the WAVE 3000 Server, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.

5.	In the left frame, click Change Adapter Settings.

6.	Right-click the network card to use for connection with the WAVE 3000 Server, and then click Properties.

7.	Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Note:

Ensure IPv4 is active by selecting the check-box.

8.	Click Use the following IP address, and then complete the following steps.

A.	In IP Address, enter 192.168.0.4

B.	In Subnet mask, enter 255.255.255.240

C.	Leave Default gateway blank.

D.	Click the OK button. Your PC is now configured to connect with the WAVE 3000 Server unit.

9.	Open a web browser and type https://192.168.0.1 in the Address bar to access the WAVE 3000 Server through the default radio adapter IP address.

10.	Accept any security certificate warnings. The WAVE 3000 Server opens.

11.	Use the default password admin to sign-in.

12.	Click the Setup tab and then click Network Adapters.

13.	Configure the Broadband Adapter with a public IP address, allowing it to connect to the internet so that it can obtain licensing information.

A.	IP Address Enter an IP address. By default, this address is 192.168.0.2.

Important:

This address is used to access the WAVE 3000 Server administrative interface. Once you Commit Changes, the old address no longer allows access. Ensure you store this address for reference. If you lose this address, you must contact Motorola support.

B.	Subnet Mask Enter a Subnet address. By default, this address is 255.255.255.240.

C.	Default Gateway Enter a Default Gateway address. By default, this address is 192.168.0.1.

D.	Primary DNS Enter a primary DNS address. By default, this address is 192.168.0.1.

E.	Secondary DNS Optionally, enter a Secondary DNS address. By default, this address is 192.168.0.1.

Click the Commit Changes button. Disconnect the WAVE 3000 Server from your PC, and connect the WAVE 3000 Server unit to a local switch or router using one of the Broadband Adapter ports. Do not use both Broadband Adapter ports. You should now be able to access the WAVE 3000 Server unit from any computer on the same network using a browser to navigate to the IP address you supplied for the Broadband Adapter.

Note:

You will need access to the internet in order to install or update licenses. Ensure the network hub you use for the Broadband Adapter has internet access.

15.	Using an Ethernet cable connect the Radio Adapter port to an Ethernet jack accessible to the Capacity Plus radio system repeater. Use only one of the two Radio Adapter ports.

Note:

There should only ever be two Ethernet cables connected to the WAVE 3000 Server - one for the Radio Adapter and one for the Broadband Adapter. Connecting additional Ethernet cables to either adapter will cause network traffic issues with the WAVE 3000 Server controller cards.

Ports

If any firewall(s) exist between the WAVE 3000 Server and the external network, then the following ports must be opened.

TCP Ports 443 and 80.

The Setup > WAVE Mobile Communicator > Connection Port The Setup > WAVE Mobile Communicator > Connection Port (default 4502) is determined by the WAVE 3000 Administrator.

If any firewall(s) exist between the WAVE 3000 Server and the radio system, then the following ports must be opened.

UDP Ports 7000-7999

The Radio System Master UDP port (for Capacity Plus and Linked Capacity Plus radios). The Radio System Master UDP Port is determined by the WAVE 3000 Server Administrator and set in Setup > Radio System Interface. This port is also configured in the Capacity Plus and Linked Capacity Plus repeaters in Link Establishment > Master UDP Port. The two port settings must match.
