Adding and Allocating Licenses

The WAVE 3000 Server requires Client Access Licenses (CALs) for WAVE users to sign in. Each CAL represents a single-use license for a WAVE client. The number of CALs assigned to a WAVE 3000 Server box limits the number of simultaneous sign-ins. If the number of CALs assigned to a WAVE 3000 Server is exceeded, then no other WAVE users can sign in.

Note:

Because some WAVE users may sign in multiple times on more than one client, one CAL does not necessarily indicate one user. If the same user signs in more than once using multiple devices, each sign in consumes a license. Licenses are released once the user signs out.

CALs are assigned to an EID. To add CALs to a WAVE 3000 Server, you must first add an EID. After the EID is associated with the WAVE 3000 Server, you may add CALs at any time. An individual WAVE 3000 Server can accept up to 500 CALs. You cannot remove CALs from an WAVE 3000 Server once they have been assigned.

Internet access is required to add new EIDs and distribute CALs. You can obtain EIDs from Motorola.

To add an EID and distribute CALs

1.	Sign in to the WAVE 3000 Server system using the current administrator password.

2.	Click the Setup tab.

3.	Click the Client Access Licenses (CALs) link. The Client Access Licenses (CALs) page opens and displays a list of all EIDs currently associated with this WAVE 3000 Server.

Note:

The system automatically attempts to connect with the licensing server. If it cannot connect, an error message appears under the page title.

4.	Click the Add New EID button. The System: Manage Client Access Licenses: Edit page opens.

5.	In the EID field, enter the EID number. The system attempts to connect to the licensing server. If successful, the Unallocated client licenses box displays the number of CALs available for allocation from this EID.

6.	In the Allocated client licenses field, enter the number of CALs to add from this EID to this WAVE 3000 Server. This number must be equal to or less than the number displayed in the Unallocated client licenses box.

Important:

No more than 500 CALs may be associated with a WAVE 3000 Server unit. CALs cannot be removed from a WAVE 3000 Server once allocated.

7.	Click the Allocate Licenses button. The WAVE 3000 Server updates the licensing server, and the Manage Client Access Licenses (CALs) page opens, displaying the new EID in the list and the number of CALs now associated with this WAVE 3000 Server.

8.	Click Commit Changes.

Note:

This should be your first time Committing Changes after completing the required configuration steps on the Setup tab. Committing Changes validates your current configuration. Any errors appear in the yellow change banner at the top of the page. If you encounter errors, you must resolve them until a successful commit occurs. Until a successful commit occurs, your changes remain saved but not applied to the WAVE 3000 Server.
