Initial Setup and Configuration : Testing Private Calls

Testing Private Calls
Private Calls from radios to WAVE users requires radio configuration. Consult the documentation provided with your radio units for more instructions on adding contacts to the radio.
WAVE Mobile Communicators can only initiate Private Calls to users in their Contact list. In the WAVE 3000 Server, click Users to open the Users list. In the Contacts column, click the numbered link in the row of the desired user. When the Contacts page opens, select and save the contacts to add.
Private Calls are half-duplex and time-out after the duration specified in Setup > WAVE Mobile Communicator > Private Call Inactivity.
On WAVE Mobile Communicator clients, there is no option to answer a Private Call. Private Calls are automatically accepted, and audio comes through immediately. WAVE Mobile Communicators can terminate a private call using the red disconnect button.
On WAVE Mobile Communicator clients, all Talk Groups are automatically muted during a Private Call to prevent the distraction of Talk Group audio from playing during the Private Call. Once the Private Call times out, all Talk Groups return to their previous muted or unmuted states.
Note:
Radio to WAVE Mobile Communicator Private Call Testing
On the Connect Plus radio, (for radios with a display), press the Menu button and navigate to Contacts, then press enter (the central button). Navigate to the contact you wish to call. If the contact does not exist, then select Manual and add the Subscriber ID of the WAVE Mobile Communicator client you wish to call. When the contact ID is on-screen, press the transmit button (the same button you would normally use to transmit over a Talk Group).
The WAVE Mobile Communicator client should chime and buzz to indicate an incoming connection. The screen automatically switches to the Directory tab, and any audio transmitted by the radio comes through immediately. Communication is half-duplex. Wait until the radio completes transmission, and then respond back using the transmit button at the bottom of the WAVE Mobile Communicator client screen.
WAVE Mobile Communicator to Radio Private Call Testing
On the WAVE Mobile Communicator client, tap the Directory tab and then tap to select a radio user to call. Once the user to call is selected, press and hold the large button at the bottom of the screen to initiate the call. The WAVE Mobile Communicator client sounds an audio chime to denote a call in progress. If the user is not available, a negative chime sounds and a notice appears. Once the call goes through, hold the button down to transmit.
On the radio being called, the audio from the private call should come through clearly, and the radio should indicate a call is in progress. The radio can respond by pressing and holding the transmit button. Audio should come out of the WAVE Mobile Communicator client clearly.
WAVE to WAVE Private Call Testing
On the WAVE Mobile Communicator client, tap the Directory tab and then tap to select a WAVE Mobile Communicator user to call. The receiving WAVE Mobile Communicator client plays a sound to indicate the reception of the Private Call. Private Calls cannot be rejected, and audio begins immediately. (All Private Calls are considered “barge-in” calls). The WAVE Mobile Communicator client receiving the call automatically switches to the Directory tab. Press and hold the transmit button at the bottom of the client to transmit.
