Restoring a Particular MLC 8000 Device Configuration

This procedure specifies how to restore the configuration data from a file, and then write it to an MLC 8000 device. This procedure is used to restore a device that was corrupted or to copy a configuration from one device to another. The restoration does not restore the IP configuration tab into the device. When restoring the data into the same device on which the backup was done the result is fully compliant with the restored data. When copying configuration from one device to another, the restore does not override the Device ID and IP configuration data of the device to which it is copied with the IP information of the device on which the backup was done. The IP data includes IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.

Prerequisites:

When and where to use:

Use this procedure to restore the MLC 8000 configuration data to a particular MLC 8000 device. This restoration is useful in the case that the device was corrupted or in the case that you want to copy the configuration from one device to another.

Procedure:

  1. From the main screen of the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool, right-click the MLC 8000 device you want to restore and select Configure Device.
  2. Click Open File
    An Open dialog box appears.
  3. Navigate to the directory of the saved configuration and find the file you want to restore. Click Open.
NoteIf you want the configuration file of the device as it was in the last time you configured the device, access: C:\ProgramData\Motorola\MLC8000 CT\Data\System\channel cluster name\SuccessfulConfigurations and find the right configuration file according to the device ID and IP address. If you want the configuration file from the last backup of the system, access the last backup folder in C:\ProgramData\Motorola\MLC8000 CT\Data\Backup. In that folder, open the channel cluster name folder and the SuccessfulConfiguration sub-folder and then locate the right .cfg file according to device ID and IP address. If, however, you saved it in a different location of your choice, locate it there.
  4. Click Write to Device.
The configuration data is written to the MLC 8000 device. The configuration can be further updated if necessary. See the appropriate configuration procedure depending on the device and system type.
