Prerequisites:

When and where to use:

Use this procedure to update the software on a newly manufactured MLC 8000 device for which an IP address has not yet been defined, and which has a particular software version installed on it that needs to be upgraded to a newer version recommended by Motorola.

  1. Click DeviceMLC 8000 DeviceAdd and enter the IP address of the device.
NoteThe device must have the default IP address the manufacturer provides: 10.98.66.98. If the device has already been provisioned with the IP address of the external LAN port, this entire procedure can be performed when the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool is connected to the device over the IP network. See procedure Downloading a Software Update to an MLC 8000 Device .
  2. Click OK.
    A login dialog box appears.
  3. Enter the <user name> and <password> of the particular device.
  4. Click OK.
The Modify Device Configuration window is displayed.
  5. Check the software version running on the device by clicking Device Versions. Note the values in the Application Version and Application Date fields. If the device requires a new software version, click OK and continue with step 7. Otherwise, click OK and then click Cancel on the Modify Device Configuration window. If a warning is displayed stating that the device is planned to be removed from the channel cluster, click Yes.
  6. Click Write to Device.
NoteThe IP address cannot yet be changed to your new IP address. This can be done after the software is downloaded.
The modify device configuration window closes.

  8. Activate the software update. See procedure Activating a Software Update on an MLC 8000 Device.
