Prestaging IP Addresses for Newly Manufactured MLC 8000 Devices

Prerequisites:

The MLC 8000 Configuration Tool is operational. See procedure Opening the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool.

When and where to use:

Use this process to assign an IP address from the customer IP Plan to an MLC 8000 device that has arrived from the manufacturer using the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool. The MLC 8000 device comes from the manufacturer with a default IP address that is used to connect the service computer/laptop directly to the device and configure the desired IP address. After the device is configured with the desired IP address, it can be connected to the IP network and is accessible from the service computer/laptop remotely.

Procedure:

  1. Prepare the PC you plan to use to provision the IP addresses. See section Preparing PC with MLC 8000 Configuration Tool for Prestaging Activities.
  2. Define a temporary channel cluster. See procedure Defining a Conventional Channel Cluster.
  3. Connect the PC to the new MLC 8000 device on which you want to provision the IP address. See procedure Connecting to a New MLC 8000 Device External LAN.
  4. Provision the initial IP address for the device. See procedure Provisioning the Initial IP Address for an MLC 8000 Device.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each MLC 8000 device for which you want to provision the IP address.
  6. Verify that the IP addresses were changed correctly. See procedure Verifying the IP Address Change.
  7. Optionally, delete the temporary channel cluster defined to specify initial IP addresses during prestaging effort. See procedure Deleting a Conventional Channel Cluster.
