Downgrading the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool and Channel Cluster to an earlier Software Release

Prerequisites:

When and where to use:

Use this procedure to downgrade the MLC 8000 Configuration tool and the entire channel cluster to an earlier release.
ImportantIf you are about to downgrade your channel cluster from MLC 8000 box release R04.xx.xx to prior releases, R03.xx.xx (ASTRO 7.14) or R02.xx.xx (ASTRO 7.13), make sure that all the MLC 8000 Analog Comparators (VGUs) in the channel cluster have a maximum of 16 associations to MLC 8000 Subsite Link Converter (AGU) ports or base radios. The releases prior to R04.xx.xx support a maximum of 16 MLC 8000 Subsite Link Converter (AGU) ports per MLC 8000 Analog Comparator (VGU). That means that if you have any VGU with more than 16 associations you must disconnect the superfluous associations.
ImportantMLC 8000 Configuration Tool releases prior to 5.xx do not support the E&M Console Keying Method. Before downgrading the Configuration Tool, you must reconfigure the MLC 8000 Analog Comparator (VGU) to use the TRC Console Keying Method
NoteAfter the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool downgrade, a shared folder for common storage of writable and configurable data, along with executable MLC 8000 Configuration Tool files is created in C:\ProgramData\Motorola\MLC8000 CT\. Existing data is restored in this folder. Writable and configurable data is not automatically restored in this folder.

Procedure:

  1. Backup the system files and save under a separate folder. See procedure Backing Up the MLC 8000 System Configuration.
  2. Download the downgrade software version to all MLC 8000 devices using procedure Downloading a Software Update to an MLC 8000 Device and activate it using procedure Activating a Software Update on all MLC 8000 Devices.
  3. Uninstall the current version of the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool. See procedure Uninstalling the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool Software Files.
  4. Delete the contents of the C:\ProgramData\Motorola\MLC8000 CT\Data folder.
  5. Install the desired version of the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool. See procedure Installing the MLC 8000 Configuration Tool Software Files.
  6. Restore the system files from the backup folder. See procedure Restoring the MLC 8000 System Configuration.
